Introduction to healthcare education and training

Overview

The education, training and supervision of colleagues is now recognised as a natural part of pharmacists’ and pharmacy technicians’ everyday work. This programme aims to provide an introduction to the skills and techniques of effective healthcare education and training. Through attending the workshops and completing the portfolio of evidence, participants will be able to apply these education skills and techniques to effectively support colleagues undertaking development opportunities in the workplace.

Eligibility

  • Pharmacy technicians or pharmacist
  • Endorsement by a senior member of their organisation (unless completing the course in own time)
  • Commitment to attend all programme dates and to complete the pre-course activities for each training session
  • Completion of online registration form (places will be on a first come, first served basis)

Course structure

  • Pre-course activities: before attending the interactive workshops, participants will be required to complete the pre-course activities, including the e-learning package ‘Helping Others Learn’ and ‘Professionalism’
  • Attendance of virtual and live interactive workshops: each workshop will include activities and presentations from experienced health professionals, with a role in healthcare education
  • Practice activities: completion of post course tasks and an evidence-based, reflective portfolio

Course dates

We run two courses a year, one in South Wales (in Spring/Summer) and one in North Wales (in Autumn/Winter). The next course will run in North Wales.

Cancellation Policy

If you have received confirmation of a place on this course and then wish to withdraw, written notification must be received at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the course, unless extenuating circumstances apply. Many of our CPD+ programmes are accredited programmes that require learners to submit a portfolio of evidence for assessment, as part of the credits awarded. Once enrolled onto these programmes, learners are required to attend all programme dates and submit a portfolio of evidence. HEIW reserves the right to claim back programme fees for costs incurred, if learners fail to attend required dates and/or submit a portfolio for assessing.
